Austin Stands With Gaza 11-17-12

11/17/12 With the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, Austin activists gathered at the Capitol building to express their solidarity in the struggle for a free Palestine. The activists marched down Congress avenue which was crowded with people attending the formula one fan fest.

Dr. Finkelstein on Palestine: Roots of the Conflict and Prospects for Peace

On March 28, 2012, Dr. Norman Finkelstein spoke at the University of Texas at Austin about the Israel-Palestine conflict. His talk focused on the background and context of the struggle and his perspective on its future. Dr. Norman Finkelstein is a renowned American Jewish professor, political scientist, activist, and author who has worked on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict for over three decades. Dr. Finkelstein received his doctorate in 1988 from the Department of Politics at Princeton University and has written six books about the Israel-Palestine conflict. He has held faculty positions at Brooklyn College, Rutgers University, Hunter College, New York University and more recently DePaul University. For many years he taught political theory and the Israel-Palestine conflict and currently writes and lectures. This event was sponsored by the Society for Islamic Awareness (SIA), Amnesty International, Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC), and the International Socialist Organization (ISO).

U.S. Boat to Gaza: Austin Solidarity Launch 6/26/11

CodePink Austin, along with other friends and supporters of the U.S. Boat to Gaza, held a symbolic "launch" on the Pfluger Bridge over Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. Participants read excerpts from writings by Alice Walker and Kathy Kelly and the letter... to President Obama regarding the reasons for the trip to Gaza. Austin citizens were asked to stop and write messages to the passengers and participate in other symbolic actions.

Palestinian Youth Brain-Dead After Shot by Settlers

 

Friday, January 28th 2011, 9am: Around 100 settlers from Bat Ayn settlement descended upon the Palestinian villages of Saffa and nearby Beit Ommar in the southern West Bank, shooting 17-year-old Yousef Fakhri Ikhlayl in his head, leaving him critically injured. Doctors have announced that Yousef is currently brain-dead in a Hebron hospital.

Settlers also shot 16-year-old Bilal Mohammad Abed Al-Qador with live ammunition in his arm.
