Scott Parkin with Rainforest Action Network and Rising Tide North America will be speaking about his experiences on direct action organizing in the North American climate movements.
The wealthy few are destroying our climate, our eco-systems and our communities. They des...troy Appalachia’s mountains for profit they make from coal. They poisoned the Gulf of Mexico for profit they make from oil. They are destroying communities from New York to American West for profit they'll make from natural gas.
Now frontline communities and allies from across the continent have risen up against the fossil fuel industry. In the past year alone, from Washington D.C. to the streets of St. Louis to highways and byways of rural Idaho, the fight against fossil fuels has intensified with massive amounts of direct action and grassroots organizing.
Texas is quickly becoming one of the battleground states in the fossil fuel wars. Natural gas “fracking” polluting communities North Texas with no end in sight. New coal plants under construction around the state. The Keystone XL Pipeline being built from Alberta to the Texas coast that would flow billions of gallons of oil directly through rural East Texas. It’s time to grow and build a direct action climate movement in the Lone State.
