On December 10th at 2 PM, Waco Dream Act Alliance, Texans United For Families (TUFF), and Grassroots Leadership will be hosting a vigil at the Jack Harwell Detention Center (or nearby location) in Waco.
We'll be meeting at the Heritage Square (3rd and Austin) at 2pm.
The Jack Harwell facility was built as a speculative jail by a private prison corporation called Community Education Centers. Despite Immigration and Customs Enforcement's claims of moving towards a "civil" detention system, the agency has recently contracted with Jack Harwell to detain women immigrants at the facility.
This vigil will serve to draw attention to the privatization of detention centers, that includes the Jack Harwell Detention Center and the horrendous treatment of the immigrant detainees inside the detention system.
Come join to demand changes in the immigration detention system, including prioritization of release and alternatives to detention as well as access to good food, sanitary living conditions, medical attention, legal rights and fresh air.
Members of TUFF will carpool from Austin to Waco - we're meeting at the PODER office at 11:30am and leaving by 12pm.
