UPCOMING AUSTIN PROGRESSIVE POTLUCKERS EVENT
* Bread for the Journey*
* Sunday, January 29, 5:30-8:00 p.m.*
* 8008 Chervil Drive, Austin 78759*
A simple relationship-based philanthropy, Bread for the Journey gives small
seed grants to people who are involved in positive change within
thecommunity. Referred to as "engaged spirituality" by its founder
Wayne
Mueller, it is a way to help those who help others. Mueller, an ordained
minister, therapist and author in New Mexico, started the first chapter
with a small group of average citizens who felt called by their
concern fortheir community. Therapists, health workers, and
educators joined
together one night over a spaghetti dinner and talked about how they might
be active in supporting change in their community. They decided to support
those who are passionate and excited about improving their communities.
Now, there are twenty chapters in the United States who practice
neighborhood philanthropy and one of them is in Austin. Learn more at

In addition to other projects, the Austin Bread for the Journey chapter has
offered small grants to a group of women practicing positive self
expression in a prison, to a web based radio program that provides a forum
for grass-roots programming, and to a senior program whose members wanted
to create a garden sanctuary. Join us to learn more about how Bread for the
Journey is making a difference in our community.
