"Die In" to Protest Bhopal Crimes

The Association for India’s Development will stage a die-in in memory of the gas disaster and the ongoing tragedy in Bhopal.

On December 2, 1984, 27 tons of toxic gas escaped from the Union Carbide pesticide factory in Bhopal, India. More than 25,000 people have died as a result of the accident. At least 150,000 people, including children born to parents who survived the disaster, suffer from chronic, debilitating, exposure-related illnesses. Tons of hazardous waste still lie exposed at the site, and Bhopal’s people drink water laced with toxins.

AID volunteers will be on hand to explain how we can help pressure Dow Chemical (which bought Union Carbide in 2001) to address the needs of survivors.

Location: West Mall, University of Texas (behind the fountain),
